We are OPEN.
OPEN is a Saskatchewan based design collaborative founded in the spirit of collaboration. Originally established in 2011 as a core group of intern architects, OPEN has since grown to be a hub for like-minded and socially engaged design professionals with connections to a cross-country network of emerging practitioners.
OPEN’s mandate is to engage the public and challenge perceptions of design through discourse, media, public art and architecture. OPEN‘s project-driven approach strives to actively impact positive change and stimulate dialogue within their communities to introduce and promote new ways to perceive / experience the built environment of the Canadian Prairies and beyond.
The active founding members of OPEN, April Hiebert, Brad Pickard and Victoria Yong-Hing, have elevated their roles as practitioners to become community catalysts and advocates for design. Notable projects include; participation in Migrating Landscapes (2012 Venice Biennale), numerous collaborative public art and community design/build installations, on-going collaboration with the University of Saskatchewan School of Architecture Initiative, and workshop course instruction at Dalhousie University in a series of publicly engaging tactical responses to urban issues in Halifax, NS.
OPEN is interested in expanding the conversation on design and architecture in Saskatchewan. We know that working with different individuals brings fresh perspectives to projects. OPEN hopes to encourage others to participate in the discussion which is why we think it is important to profile past and present collaborators and contributors. If you are interested in collaborating, please contact us.
